Hotel worker turns in $50,000 guest left behind
NYHTC - July 27, 2010
Both the BBC and the Daily Telegraph carried stories on Essa Khan, a 20-year employee of the Gilgit Serena Hotel in Pakistan who discovered $50,000 in $100 bills while conducting a routine inspection of a recently-vacated guest room.
Mr. Khan, whose monthly salary in rupees is approximately $235, promptly turned the money in, saying he hopes the incident will help portray his country in a good light and show that there are many good people in Pakistan. The governor of Pakistan's Punjab province declared Mr. Khan, whom he described as "a humble housekeeper," a national hero.
